Have a question about the MTB Strength Club? Check below for the answer
Do I need any gym training experience to be able to complete the program?
Minimal or no gym experience is ok. I am experienced in coaching and teaching strength and power training exercises from 20 years in the industry. Adaptions can be made to exercises to meet you where you are.
My level of fitness is not really high and I’m concerned. Should I still join the program?
Yes, I am committed to working with each participant to help them achieve their personal best. Adaptions to certain parts of the program can be made to meet you where you are at. Let’s get started!
I have an injury, can I still participate?
Due to the nature of mountain biking injuries do happen. I am committed to safely working around injuries with participants in order to allow them to continue to improve their strength and fitness.
With regards to the injury itself, depending on the nature of the injury, it’s important you seek out professional help with injuries. I am a certified Athletic Therapist who is a specialist in sports injury and am highly experienced in guiding athletes through rehab, reconditioning and return to sport programs. I can work with you in a clinical rehabilitation setting (for an extra fee) to help transition you back to training and onto the bike along side of the program.
If you are already working with another health care professional to recover from an injury, I am happy to discuss with them to help make sure the program is a good fit for you.
If in doubt, please reach out and we can discuss your specific situation.
If I miss a session, or my schedule changes, can I come to a session different than what I signed up?
In order to provide the best training experience, we ask that all participants commit to one primary time slot for the season. On the occasion that your schedule requires it, we’re happy to have you attend an alternative session if there is space available in the gym for an extra participant. If attending an alternative session isn’t possible then I can help you adapt the workout to do on your own time.
I’m traveling or am unavailable for some workouts, can I make up the workouts?
My goal is to create consistency in your training program. If you plan to be away, please provide notice and I will provide guidance of how you can adapt the planned training sessions while you are away.
Is the program co-ed?
Yes, the MTB Strength Club program is an excellent training tool for any gender. The sessions are welcoming, and we encourage all riders passionate about improving their fitness and riding performance to join in.
Am I too old/young for the program?
All levels and ages are welcome - participants can be from 13 to 80 yrs+ old.
What level of mountain biker is the program designed for?
The program is designed for mountain bikers (and other cycling disciplines) of multiple levels. You will be coached on how to complete the program based on your own unique abilities. All you need is a passion to progress on the bike, in the gym and life to be successful at this program.
I do a little bit of mountain biking but I am more focused on an other cycling discipline (ie Cyclocross, Road, BMX, track), could the program work for me?
YES! This program can be an excellent and efficient form of training that benefits riders in all cycling disciplines. Strength and power training in the gym is not specific to specific disciplines of cycling. It is designed to improve the athleticism of the cycling athlete.
During the winter, I am more focused on other activities outside of riding could the program work for me?
YES! While the program is designed for cyclists, this is an excellent form of training to improve overall athleticism and the benefits of work done in the gym reach beyond mountain biking. I personally play adult league hockey through the winter and see the benefits on the rink from consistent strength and power training.
I don’t see a time that works with my schedule?
I am happy to offer other times if there is demand. Better yet, get a group of your riding buddies together and we can put a schedule together that works you! Alternatively I do offer in-person 1-1 Training AND online programs and coaching. Contact me and let’s make a plan to Level Up!
Check out Online Coaching Plans, the MTB Strength Club Online and Training Plans.
Will the program focus on other physical qualities for cycling aside from strength training?
Yes! Mobility, the ability to move well, will be worked on in each session. Also training power (Moving FAST!) will be a big focus of the training sessions. On top of the in-person group training sessions, each participant will have access to endurance and nutrition programs to be able to maximize the progress from the gym.
Do you allow drop-ins?
Not at this time. We rent the gym by the hour and the program builds week to week, so drop-ins do not fit the costs or the training design. Consistency is what drives results. If you want to check fit for the next intake, join the waitlist or reach out about a quick call.
Do you offer testing, and how does it work?
Yes. We do not run one big testing day. You’ll use simple checkpoints at home or during sessions: on-bike FTP and power profile, mobility videos you send me, and jump height/power with a phone app, plus basic strength checks in the gym.
I can't join at the start of the program, can I start later?
We offer enrolment periods during the winter program. These periods are dependent on available space in current groups as well as availability of gym space. Check the main page to see what this years enrolment periods are.
