Pressure of ‘New Years Resolutions’ can lead to a goal that lacks emotional attachment and poorly designed strategies to see that goal through to the end.
What do goals like this look like?
* Start going back to the gym
* Ride my bike more
* Eat healthier
* Lose weight
Basic, not exciting, lacking a quantifiable or qualifiable outcome.
When you set a goal at anytime, I want you to dig deep.
What you want to get out of your goal and why?
What will it mean to you to when you reach that goal?
How excited will you feel?
Will you jump for joy?
Do you get goose bumps thinking about it?
That’s a goal worth reaching for!
What steps do you need to take to succeed in reaching your goal?
First, do your goals follow the SMART principle?
🔹Specific
🔹Measurable
🔹Achievable
🔹Realistic
🔹Time Oriented
Examples of SMART goals are:
🔺 Increase my 5 rep Deadlift 50 lbs by spring.
🔺 Finish top 10 in my category at my local Enduro race this summer.
How do you stay on track with your goal?
1️⃣ Set smaller goals that will help you have small victories as you progress to your bigger goals.
🔺 They can be process focused. Example - Strength train 2x/week
🔺 They can be performance focused. Example - Add 2.5-5lb to your deadlift each week
2️⃣ Ingrain habits that will help you build and maintain momentum
🔺 Schedule training into your weekly schedule. Make it a non-negotiable item just like work and family time
🔺 Set your shoes and workout clothes out the night before a workout.
🔺 Read my article on How to Successfully Create Habits
3️⃣ Post reminders in your life to help keep your focus
🔺 Sticky notes, monthly iCalendar notifications.
4️⃣ Create Accountability
🔺 Tell a family member or friend about the goal and ask them to keep you accountable.
🔺 Hire a coach that specializes in helping people with goals like yours. They will build you the best program for your goals, experiences and lifestyle.
What your next step?
TAKE ACTION!
Action creates motivation, which turns into momentum that will not be stopped
